Recycled Christmas Gift Tags
- Rebecca Sipper
Recycled
Christmas gift tags are a fun way to dress up your Christmas gifts
for free. Kids and adults can use leftover craft and other materials
around the house to make unusual and pretty Christmas gift tags for
free.
Food Boxes
One of my favorite sources around the house for free or recycled
gift tags is empty food boxes. The red tag in the photo is made from
the end of a cracker box.
When looking at your empty food boxes, take the time to turn them in
all directions. Often the tops and the bottoms of the box have less
print on them and more solid color.
In the case of this recycle Christmas craft I was able to cut out a
simple gift tag and get some cool graphics in them. No one will know
this free Christmas gift tag is from a cracker box.
If your food boxes simply are covered in print and you have having
no luck cutting out Christmas gift tags large enough to use, then
you have a few options. You can first cut out two matching tags from
the box that are the same size. Glue the colored or printed sides
together.
The brown material on the inside now becomes the outside of your
recycle Christmas craft project.
Secondly, you can also paint the cardboard. Try a coat of nice thick
left over acrylic or house pain from other crafts. Let the paint
try, punch your hole, and then write “To” and “From” on the gift
tags.
Coffee
Wrappers
Almost every person I know has a coffee from the local coffee shop
about once a week. You can use that simple brown cup wrapper that
protects your hand to make a simple and sweet brown gift tag that
will coordinate well with country Christmas wrapping paper.
Cut out two identical gifts tags. Glue the printed sides together.
Now, use a nice thick maker to address the gift tag!
The small brown tag in the photo is made from a coffee cup wrapper.
Magazine Covers
Try flipping your magazine over to find tons of free colorful paper
for cool Christmas gift tags. The cover paper on a magazine is
usually thicker than the inside sheets.
The back cover is also the best place to find large blocks of color.
This bright Christmas tag color came from an ad that had tons of
yellow in the background.
My yellow gift tags in the photo are made from the back cover of a
decorating magazine. This was a simple recycled craft that works so
well for Christmas!
