Vintage Christmas Postcard
- Rebecca Sipper
Vintage Holiday postcards can be pricey, so try making your own. You
can make this simple Vintage Christmas postcard craft using
affordable materials from your craft store. The more vintage
Christmas postcards you make, the less each one will cost!

You will be using watercolor paper and watercolor paint for this
Vintage Christmas postcard craft. To save money try buying the
watercolor paper by the sheet. You can also use student grade
watercolors; they work great!
To Make a Vintage Christmas Postcard You Will Need:
Watercolor paper
Scissors or pinking sheers
Masking tape
Watercolor paint or ink
Paintbrush
Permanent Masking Fluid
Waterproof ink pen or marker
Plastic plate
To get started making your Christmas postcard you want to cut out a
rectangle of water color paper that is about 4X6 inches.
Tape this to a flat work surface or art board.

Shake the jar of permanent masking fluid. Dip your paint brush in
the masking fluid and use it to paint your Christmas themed words on
the postcard, just like if you were painting them on with paint.
Let the permanent masking fluid dry completely.
Permanent masking fluid can be bought for about $3 at any craft
supply or art supply store. It is a key material in creating this
vintage Christmas postcard craft project, so you will need to invest
in this craft material.
As you will see though, the permanent masking fluid is inexpensive
and will last for hundreds of Christmas craft projects.
Squeeze some red watercolor paint out on a plastic plate. Add tiny
bit of water. To create a more vintage red paint color for this
Christmas craft project you can add a little bit of brown water
color paint.
Now, brush the red paint over the postcard. The masking fluid will
block the paint from absorbing where you painted your Christmas
words.
Let the watercolor paint dry. Watercolor paint dries quickly. If you
are in a hurry you can set a fan on the Christmas postcard to help
the watercolor paint dry more quickly.
Slowly remove the tape from the edges.
Use pinking sheers or scissors to clean up the edges of the
Christmas postcard craft.
Flip the postcard face down and draw in the line that divides the
address side of the Christmas postcard from the address lines. Add a
box for the stamp and three lines for the address on the right.

Let the ink or marker dry and you are finished.
These simple vintage Christmas postcards make wonderful hand painted
Christmas cards or even Christmas gifts.
